Title:
Incorporating erbium-defects into active and passive 4H-SiCOI quantum photonic structures

Abstract:
4H Silicon-carbide (4H-SiC) is a promising contender to host scalable integrated spin-photon interfaces. By utilizing spin-carrying single-photon emitters operating in the telecommunication C-band (1530-1565nm), 4H-SiC offers straightforward compatibility with existing fiber-optic infrastructure, an essential requirement for future quantum networks.
In this context, erbium dopants are particularly attractive due to their promising emitter properties, such as small spectral diffusion and long spin coherence times. However, their low C-band photon-emission rate has limited further studies of this particular defect.
In this talk, I will provide insights into the recent incorporation of erbium-defects into active and passive integrated quantum photonic structures hosted in 4H-SiC-on-Insulator (4H-SiCOI). These structures enabled observations of Purcell-enhanced single-photon emission as well as initial studies of the electron spin properties.

Bio:
After finishing a double-master’s degree in collaboration with the University of Stuttgart and RMIT University, I started PhD studies under the supervision of Stefania Castelletto and Brett C. Johnson at RMIT University, which I am about to complete. I focus on research with infrared photon emitters in 4H-SiCOI and their possible integration into nanophotonic structures.
